Francis Poulenc's

La voix humaine

The telephone was a newish invention in 1930 when Jean Cocteau wrote the play on which this opera is based. The telephone cord itself plays a role in the drama, as it both connects the character (Elle) to her ex-lover, and becomes her means of committing suicide.

Mezzo soprano and Cedar Rapids native Janara Kellerman  brings to life this neurotic one-act opera by the esteemed French art song composer Poulenc.

April 2 & 3, 2021 at 7:30 p.m.

*Free pre-opera talks will begin one hour before performance.
