Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre opens its 22nd season with Puccini's magnificent tragic masterpiece, MADAMA BUTTERFLY.  One of the most popular and frequently performed operas, it tells the heartbreaking and timeless tale of unrequited love, and will have audiences riveted from the first sweet notes through the intense and emotional finale.

 

Headlining the cast will be Ukranian soprano, YULIA LYSENKO, our Butterfly, Cio Cio San.

JEREMY BRAUNER, tenor, and Metropolitan Opera National Council finalist, will debut as American Lieutenant B.F. Pinkerton.  KELLY HILL, mezzo soprano, returns to the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre stage as Butterfly's servant and friend, Suzuki.   Baritone THADDEUS ENNEN, joins us as Colonel Sharpless; JOEL SORENSEN, tenor, as Goro; and MATTHEW LAU, bass, as Uncle Bonze.
